概要

PP. 274-298. The Touring Club Italiano magazine «L’Albergo in Italia» specializing in the hotel industry was published between 1925 and 1943. The recurring authors of the articles were M. Avancini, G. Garofolini, G. Paoli, B. Scotti, G. Silvestri, P. Stacchini, and U. Tegani, the latter being the most prolific, dealing with various series such as Gemme del Trentino (Gems of Trentino), Gemme del Cadore (Gems of Cadore), Gemme del Garda (Gems of Garda), Spiagge dell’Adriatico (Beaches of the Adriatic), Alberghi di Sicilia (Hotels of Sicily) and Perle della Riviera (Pearls of the Riviera), which illustrated the glamour of the locations with their most prestigious hotels. In fact, during the Fascist era, one of the most interesting article themes was characterized by the irredentist propaganda towards the territory of the Austrian border up to Lake Garda and the Adriatic coast. To rival the French Côte d’Azur, the Italian Riviera was also an important area to improve the hotel quality. Outside the series, there were also numerous articles about the Italian Colonies with their most important hotels. During major events such as the Holy Year of 1925 and the Rome Universal Exhibition in 1942, new hotels opened and existing ones renovated. Thus, in those years, especially in the 1930s, there was a flourishing of renovation or construction of hotels in the latest rational architectural style, and some of these hotels included in the articles on the series Alberghi che si rinnovano (Renovating hotels) or Vedette alberghiere (Observation about hotel). Moreover, the patriotic spirit provoked an interest in Italian cuisine: quite a few articles illustrated Italian gastronomy, written by authors specializing in hotels.
