This paper investigates the use of smartphones for online vocabulary learning assignment given to 105 Japanese university students. Data were collected from self-report closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The results suggest that most of the students showed a positive attitude towards online vocabulary learning and receiving feedback from the instructor. Furthermore, Information Technology was found to act as powerful tool for students’ engagement in foreign language learning.
