This paper addresses the significance of drawing education for children by English art educator Marion Richardson (1892-1946) in the early 20th Century. It was the origin of a strong tilt towards ‘free expression’ and ‘creativity’ as well as an innovative challenge to a range of areas including art and design. Firstly, we will overview the historically specific situation of English society, which provided the context for Richardson’s innovative challenge.
